The Golden Rule
There is only one rule:
Treat others as you would treat your highest self.
That’s it. Everything else flows from this.
Why One Rule
More rules create more policing, more judgment, more friction. A single, clear principle does the opposite — it creates space for people to find their own way while respecting everyone else’s.
The golden rule isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention. When in doubt, choose kindness. When confused, choose patience. When triggered, choose the response you’d want directed at your best self.
The “In Silence” Tag
The most concrete expression of the golden rule is the silence tag.
Wear it to signal you’d like silence. Everyone respects it — no questions asked, no judgment passed, no explanation needed. Remove it when you’re ready to engage again.
This small practice embodies the whole ethos: respecting each pilgrim’s chosen mode. Some days you need conversation. Some days you need quiet. Both are equally valid. The tag makes the invisible visible so no one has to guess or justify.
In Practice
- Someone walks slowly — match their pace or walk ahead, but don’t rush them
- Someone is quiet at dinner — let them be, they’ll speak when ready
- Someone meditates differently — their practice is theirs
- Someone shares something vulnerable — hold it with care
- Someone needs space — give it freely
We all have our own unique journey, but we share the same goal: peace, harmony, and a deeper connection with ourselves and the world around us.
